GMOs (or “genetically modified organisms”)
are organisms that have been created through the gene-splicing
techniques of biotechnology (also called genetic engineering,
or GE). This relatively new science allows DNA from one species
to be injected into another species in a laboratory, creating
combinations of plant, animal, bacteria, and viral genes that
do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding
methods. Read

Half of the world's poor
suffer from waterborne disease, and nearly 6,000 people -
mainly children - die each day by consuming unsafe drinking
water. LifeStraw® water purifiers have been developed
as a practical way of preventing disease and saving lives,
as well as achieving the Millennium Development Goal of reducing
by one-half the proportion of people without sustainable access
to safe water by the year 2015.
Global Green-
A Community Outreach Program for Leaders
Global Green seeks to bridge the information
gap between weak environmental practices and green practices
in the workplace to encourage the transition into sustainable
practices. While the Green movement has gained more attention,
most businesses do not have an initiative on how to implement
this into the work place. This initiative, Global Green,
will match companies with available green resources and educate
them on better environmental practices. Read

Over many thousands of years humanity has
participated in some strange and bizarre behaviors. In ancient
Rome, it was common to eat an extravagant meal and then
regurgitate that meal to return and eat again. In some cultures
the foot is bound to keep it from growing, rings are worn
around the neck to elongate it, some cultures mutilate genitals
or other body parts as a justified practice. For some these
practices seem cruel and are viewed as a misuse of the human
body. Other feel that it is time for humanity to move beyond
damaging the human body that houses our spirit. When we
look at food, we should see resources to give our bodies
nutrition so that we can function to the best of our ability
in this vehicle that houses our spirit. The spirit is the
most important aspect of caring for our bodies. Read

ULTRASOUND:
THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE
Yasmina Ajimi-Hernader
Sonography, or ultrasonography, is the
use of sound waves to generate an image used for assessment
and diagnosis of various medical conditions. Ultrasound
technology bounces acoustic waves off samples, extracting
images and data from the reflected signals by using relatively
inexpensive electronics that switch between transmitting
and receiving (Rollins, 2005). Read

A newly discovered planet is eerily similar to Earth and
is sitting outside our solar system in what seems to be
the ideal place for life.
NASA
Telescope Confirms Alien Planet in Habitable Zone
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — NASA's planet-hunting
Kepler spacecraft has confirmed the discovery of its first
alien world in its host star's habitable zone — that
just-right range of distances that could allow liquid water
to exist — and found more than 1,000 new explanet
candidates, researchers announced today (Dec. 5).
Kepler also has discovered 1,094 new planet
candidates, nearly doubling its previously known count.
Since the last catalog was released in February, the number
of planet candidates identified by Kepler has increased
by 89 percent and now totals 2,326. Of these, 207 are approximately
Earth-size, 680 are super Earth-size, 1,181 are Neptune-size,
203 are Jupiter-size and 55 are larger than Jupiter. Read

Drivers Adopt Solar Chargers to Wean Themselves Off the
Grid
Drivers wanting to drive electric cars
are getting an incentive to go solar. Several people who
already use solar power at home are considering electric
vehicles. To that end, companies specializing in home solar
systems are beginning to offer EV chargers as well. SolarCity
has installed more than 2,500 residential solar EV charging
stations, for example, and REC Solar has joined GE to include
GE WattStation Level 2 chargers in new solar setups. Read

How
Did You Get Green Eyes?
Most science classes teach that a mother
and father pass on one of two genes to their offspring.
This is what determines the color of the eye in a way of
dominent verses recessive genes, but maybe that is not the
whole picture. A geneticist from Stanford explains. Read

Transparency The Next Step in Human Spiritual Evolution
Secrecy has kept humanity from progressing in several
ways. While we currently live in an environment where
secrecy has been heralded as a way to protect and control
information, people, and cultures, it has also kept humanity
from progression. This concept is in fact so progressive
that some are threatened by the very concept. It means
that monetary wealth, technological advancements, and
trade secrets would be threatened according to current
standards. Humanity must eventually realize that
it is our environmental factors that are flawed and must
someday change if we are ever to progress in our spiritual
evolution. By Dianne Irene. Read

Waste
From Nuclear Plants A MAJOR Problem for Humanity
Take a look at the shocking reality of
nuclear radioactive waste. Uranium is dumped in parts of
Kyrgyzstan, waste containment from the 70's is outdated
and leaking into the watershed and ecosystem, Chernobyl
is still a graveyard, 3 Mile Island still has mutated animals
and plants and cancer rates are high, mistakes are made
like leaving a nuclear core in the open because of paperwork,
Japan's tragic mistake of trusting nuclear plants, the horrors
of Saddam Hussein's use of radioactive material on his own
people, and still humanity continues to create this finite
killer. Read More.

Empathy
It is essential for those who do not
have an innate ability to feel empathy to learn this process

to a more balanced state. by Dianne Irene
